Better Sand. Better Chemistry. Better Proppants.

Our History

Becoming a Leader in the Proppants Industry

Atlas Resin Proppants is a privately held, family-owned business that manufactures resin coated sand proppants for the service segment of the oil and natural gas industry. Atlas Resin Proppants was founded in 2005 as a Limited Partnership. Construction of the Taylor, Wisconsin production facility was completed in 2005. Badger Mining Corporation, one of the principal partners within the partnership, acquired 100% ownership of Atlas in October 2007. The Taylor production facility was expanded and doubled production in 2008. In 2009, the corporate office moved from Tulsa, OK to Taylor. A new production facility was built near the Village of Merrillan, Wisconsin in 2010 and another production facility was built, again, near the Village of Merrillan in 2011.

Our sister company, Badger Mining Corporation is well-known as one of the most experienced and reputable suppliers of raw silica sand proppants to the oil and gas industry. This partnership allowed for exclusive access to their highly sought-after Northern White silica sand to use as our base substrate. To appreciate the value of Badger’s impact on our history, it is good to know Badger’s history.

Badger Mining Corporation has always been a closely held family company whose roots in the mining industry go back more than 100 years. Officially, in 1949, Clifford Chier founded the C.A. Chier Sand Co. near Fairwater, Wisconsin, where the primary focus was on foundry sand.

In 1979, Badger Mining Corporation was founded by Cliff’s son, Russ, and his son-in-law, George Hess. This is when our roots in hydraulic fracturing began. Think about that. We’ve been focusing on improving proppant performance for many decades. How many proppant suppliers can claim that level of experience, much less the quality that results from that experience?

What we’ve learned over the years is simple; hire the brightest and most committed people you can, train and educate them, foster a collaborative team oriented environment, reward success in alignment with our Vision and Values, and get out of their way. We are now introducing our 4th generation to the company, Atlas and Badger will continue to stay committed to the long-term benefit of our customers, our associates, and the communities and environment we all live, work, and play in.
